An ideal recreational terrain

Recognised as being Europe’s largest Volcano, the Massif Cantalien offers a superb "recreational terrain" for nature sports enthusiasts, featuring varied, breathtaking scenery, a host of singletracks and ridgeways, significant altitude differences, and much more besides...

The Cantal offers a different experience, wide-open spaces and requires technical skills that will suit participants in the Oxygen Challenge.

Le Lioran at the heart of the event

A mountain resort located at an altitude of 1,200m, Le Lioran is at the very core of the Oxygen Challenge. Situated at the foot of the Plomb du Cantal and close to Puy Mary, Le Lioran offers a peerless setting for a broad spectrum of nature sports: trail running, mountain biking, trekking, paragliding… It is unquestionably the ideal spot to organise the first nature sports meeting and bring together competitors in different disciplines on the same site over several days.

Held in May 2009, the first edition of the Oxygen Challenge enabled 3000 outdoor sports enthusiasts to test-out the Cantal terrain.

They were all unanimous about the quality of the courses and the beauty of the scenery: Plomb du Cantal, Cascade de Faillitoux; col du Pertus...

How to get to Le Lioran

Centrally situated in France, Le Lioran is a 3- to 5-hour drive away from most of the country’s big cities.

In addition, we chose to organise the Oxygen Challenge over the long Ascension holiday weekend so as to give riders & runners the opportunity of bringing family or friends along to discover the tracks and pathways of the Massif Cantalien.
